I am the lead product designer for Proximie's telepresence product, a B2B SaaS platform that enables surgeons to remotely collaborate with any operating room worldwide. The platform enables teams to watch surgery live and record procedures for training and records. All while ensuring patient privacy, enhancing communication, and revolutionising the way our users save lives.
Within the healthcare system, there are numerous challenges that hinder the delivery of quality surgical care. One of the key issues is the limited access to surgical expertise, especially in underserved areas or regions with resource constraints. Surgeons often face difficulties in seeking timely guidance, mentorship, or collaboration with specialists, which can adversely impact patient outcomes. Furthermore, the complex nature of surgical procedures and the need for continuous education and training pose additional challenges for surgeons.
Through a user-centered design approach and extensive user research, my design impact on the live experience at Proximie has had a significant impact on both user experience and business outcomes. By closely observing real users in the operating theatre and conducting user testing, I was able to identify pain points and improve the overall usability of the product. As a result, we have exceeded our company objectives by increasing the number of sessions by 10% year on year.

Collaboration with the wider product team and a well thought out user journey has enabled seamless integration of software and hardware has empowered our customers to set up and operate the system independently, reducing the need for hand-holding and enabling scalability for our business. This achievement is particularly significant in the medical environment, where complex and tedious health systems are the norm. Our user-centred design approach has not only improved efficiency but also contributed to better patient outcomes by providing a user-friendly and secure platform.
